Speaking to reporters here on the sidelines of an event, Itoo noted that students have lost considerable classroom time this year because of multiple factors.
“First, schools were shut in the wake of a war-like situation, and soon after, flood-like situation forced further closures,” she said.
The Minister acknowledged that the repeated interruptions have severely affected the completion of syllabus.
“To address this, we have sought inputs from parents, teachers, students, and the public at large. Whatever is found practical and feasible, the Government will implement in the interest of students,” she added.
Itoo also revealed that at least 40 schools were extensively damaged during the floods after being filled with mud and silt. “The restoration of these schools has taken time and making them operational is still taking time”, she added.
“…you are requested to kindly consider devising a suitable mechanism to provide necessary relief to students, either through: Reduction of syllabus by 15-20% or Introduction of open choice in examinations, instead of deletion of specific topics, or Any other academic concession deemed appropriate in the interest of students.”
