JAMMU, June 4: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has reconstituted the High Power Vigilance and Monitoring Committee to oversee the implementation of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, across the Union Territory.

As per an order, the committee would be headed by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha with Ministers incharge Finance and Social Welfare Departments, all MPs and MLAs from the region belonging to the SC and ST communities, Chief Secretary Atal Duloo, Administrative Secretary Home Department, DGP J&K, and Director/Deputy Director, National Commission for SCs and STs as Members and Administrative Secretary, Social Welfare Department as Convenor of the committee.
The order further said that the committee shall meet at least twice in a calendar year, in the month of January and July to review the implementation of the provisions of the Act, relief and rehabilitation facilities provided to the victims and other matter connected therewith, prosecution of cases under the Act, role of different officers/agencies responsible for implementing the provisions of the Act and various reports received from the UT Government.
