JAMMU, Apr 17: The School Education Department (SED) has directed all the Deputy Commissioners in Jammu and Kashmir to stop deploying school teachers and staff for non-teaching and administrative duties.
In a circular issued on Wednesday, the department said that several teaching staff members have been attached to Deputy Commissioners’ offices without permission from the School Education Department.
It said this practice is affecting the education of students, especially when there is already a shortage of teaching staff in schools.
The department emphasized that the main responsibility of teaching staff is to provide quality education, and they should not be assigned duties outside schools.
Using teachers for other tasks, the circular said, hampers academics and disrupts the functioning of schools.
As such, the School Education Department has instructed all the Deputy Commissioners of the UT of Jammu and Kashmir to restrict the deployment/attachment of educational staff to ensure, maintain stability, fairness and effective functioning of the educational institutions in all the districts of the UT.
In case of requirement of staff, the Department has emphasized that the matter should be referred to the designated authority viz Directorate of School Education or the Administrative Department.
