JAMMU, Apr 17: In order to mitigate the problems of Kashmiri migrants putting up in Jammu and other parts of the country, the Government has released the advance ration for the months of April and May in their favour in view of the spread of Global COVID-19 necessitating the countrywide lockdown to fight the dreaded virus.
According to Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner, T K Bhat, besides the release of two months advance ration in favour of migrants, cash assistance for the month of March 2020 has been credited to the Aadhar linked bank accounts of relief category holders although it was delayed by a few days on account of closure of NPCI due to holidays through which all DBT payments are being made.
He said this all was done amid Union Territory lockdown which is in force from March 24. Bhat said directions were passed to camp commandants to ensure supply of food grains, safe drinking water, electricity and proper sanitation/cleanliness to camp inmates.
He said ration for the month of March 2020 was distributed amongst the rationees at all camp locations in presence of camp commandants and in non camp areas under the close supervision of zonal officers and other staff members.
He said advance ration for the month of April, May 2020 has been got released by Director Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Jammu on March 31 and till date 4843 quintals of ration has been distributed amongst the migrants residing in camps and non camp areas.
He said in its efforts to mitigate the problems of migrants on March 23 a group of officers headed by him and comprising of Assistant Commissioner Relief, Assistant Director Planning and Executive Engineer visited all the camps viz. Purkhoo, Muthi, Butta Nagar, Nagrota and Mini Township Jagti.
Bhat said he along with Executive Engineer and other officers visited all the camps regularly including team of Engineers to ensure sanitation of the camps by the NGO’s to which sanitation work has been allotted.
Amid COVID-19 the directions and maintenance of water supply scheme at Mini Township Jagti and sanitation of all the camps has been outsourced by e-tendering while the damaged transformer has been replaced at TRT Nagrota.
On April 16th & 17th sanitization has been done at mini township Jagti by Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) on the request of Relief Organisation.
The NGOs who have been given sanitation work have been directed to conduct sanitization process at all camps regularly.
