Govt plans to take up up-gradation of rural, interior roads soon: Sham

AKHNOOR, July 21: Government  is working on a plan to take up the up-gradation of interior roads connecting small towns and villages with the main roads.
Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma said  while addressing a function organized to  mark bi-annual  congregation of Reen Bridari here today at Panj Grian. He said that the up- gradation of the interior and rural roads would be taken up as second phase of the bigger project started to widen and up-grade all the main roads, including inter district roads and highways.
The Minister also threw a detailed light on various developmental and schemes like, Bharat Nirman, Prime Minister Grameen Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), service schemes, like NRHM, IWDP, ICDS, besides employment schemes like MGNREGA. He also listed self-employment schemes well suited for rural areas, particularly women and asked the people to take up activities having local potential.
The Minister also listed the measures to provide the safe drinking water to the people across the state. He said that to have safe drinking water was the right of every individual and the Government  has flagged PHE as priority sector.  He said that the department was also busy in providing tap water to all educational institutions.
Earlier, the Minister prayed for the peace and prosperity of the state. He also greeted the Reen Biradari   on the bi-annual congregation and asked the community to contribute its bit towards maintaining communal harmony in the society.
