NEW DELHI:  The Centre has planned to set up17 AIIMS like institutions in India in a phased manner, the Lok Sabha was informed today.

The proposals have been received from 17 states for setting up of new AIIMS like institutions. Government has decided to take up these new AIIMS like institutions in a phased manner, Health and Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda said in a written reply.

“Government has decided to set up new AIIMS like institutions at Mangalagiri in Andhra Pradesh, Kalyani in West Bengal, Nagpur in Maharashtra, Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, and Bathinda in Punjab,” the Minister added.

He added that the Government has announced the establishment of such AIIMS like institutions in Jammu and Kashmir, Tamil Nadu, Himachal Pradesh, Assam and one more in Bihar.

The matter for establishment of AIIMS is followed up with the respective state governments for early identification of suitable sites along with necessary commitment for providing approach road, required electricity load, connectivity, water supply and sewer lines.

The government has prepared a check-list including different parameters of the offered site for expeditious decision making.

The sites so identified are inspected expeditiously by a central team to assess the suitability of the sites for establishment of AIIMS. The sites for AIIMS in Assam, Jammu and Kashmir have already been finalised, he said.  (agencies)
