SRINAGAR, June 13: Government today said it will order an enquiry into the alleged swindling of Rs 1.73 crore to clear ‘fictitious’ bills at the close of financial year on March 31, 2016 in Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital, Jammu.
Replying to a question raised by Choudhary Mohammad Akram in the Legislative Assembly, Minister for Health and Medical Education Bali Bhagat said the Government will enquire into these allegations and submit a report within two days.
Mr Akram said GMC Hospital, Jammu has diverted Rs 1.73 crore, allocated for procuring medicines for Below Poverty Level (BPL) patients and to purchase various medical equipments, to another head. He said it was done to clear ‘fictitious’ bills in the last fiscal year.
He further added that the inquiry ordered into alleged misappropriation of funds was shelved, reportedly at the behest of ‘some unscrupulous elements’.
Meanwhile, Minister for Health, replying to a question of Mohammad Khursheed Alam, informed that doctors who are found unauthorized absent from duties are being terminated by the Government after following due procedure under the Article 128 of J&K Civil Services Regulations(CSR).
The Minister informed that presently no doctor is on any long leave, adding that 3 doctors are on sanctioned duty leave for undergoing P.G courses outside the State.
Bali Bhagat informed that notices were served to 137 doctors found unauthorized absent, of which 100 doctors were terminated from services and the cases of the rest 37 are under examination.
The Minister said posts which fell vacant after the termination of the doctors will be filled up on fast track basis, saying that, so far, 79 posts have been referred to PSC for recruitment.
