Govt would give new impetus to Revenue Deptt functioning: Bukhari

JAMMU, Apr 7: Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Syeed Basharat Bukhari has said that Government would give new impetus to the functioning of Revenue Department to provide transparent and accountable administration to the people at gross root level in the State.
He said a vision document would be formulated to reflect how to move ahead in coming years to preserve and protect land for future generation.
Reviewing the functioning of the department at an officers meeting here today, the Revenue Minister asked the Financial Commissioner Revenue to formulate a comprehensive proposal for redefining and re-organising the department at all levels. He also instructed formulation of revenue court manual for prompt disposal of land dispute cases through different courts of the department.
Financial Commissioner Revenue, Regional Director and Survey Land Records and Assistant Settlement Commissioner were among others who attended the meeting.
The Financial Commissioner gave a detailed brief of the different activities of the department to the Minister during the meeting.
The Minister stressed on strict implementation of different Acts for the welfare of the people besides protection of State and Khacharai land from encroachers.
Later, the Minister convened a meeting to discuss the activities undertaken by the Cooperatives Department in North Kashmir to explore and promote the potential of cooperative societies.
Legislatures, Javid Hassan Beigh, Yaser Reshi, Secretary Cooperative, Baseer Khan and Registrar Cooperative, Bashir Ahmad Bhat were present in the meeting.
The Minister asked the concerned authorities to encourage the youth of the area for setting up cooperative societies for earning their livelihood and generating employment avenues. He said that the Cooperatives Department can play a vital role in exploring the great potential in poultry, milk, fish, horticulture and sheep husbandry sectors through cooperative societies which hold key to socio economic emancipation of the rural masses.
The Minister underscored the need to revive and strengthen the cooperative movement by creating mass awareness about the schemes and programmes of the department, besides conducting audit of the existing assets of the department.
