Govt fails to fulfill election promises: Bukhari

SRINAGAR, July 7: Apni Party president Altaf Bukhari today accused the Government of failing to deliver on promises made before the elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking on the sidelines of a function in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, Bukhari said, “The Government did not even give 1% of what it promised to the people. They had assured 200 units of free electricity per household, but even that has only partially reached the AAY population and It has not been implemented yet.”

He also cited other unfulfilled commitments, including the promise of providing one lakh jobs within three months and the restoration of special status. “They showed people big dreams. But it is now clear they are not even trying to restore statehood,” he added.
Responding to claims that the dissolution of the Union Territory Assembly is necessary for granting Statehood, Bukhari dismissed it as a “political excuse.” “Even if Statehood is granted, it will still be the same Government. Why should they be afraid-unless they have failed in governance?” he asked.
He further alleged that the BJP wants to keep people behind bars and demanded the release of those not involved in heinous crimes. “We want inclusive democracy. Let people live with dignity,” he said.
Commenting on the demand for a public holiday on July 13 to honour martyrs, Bukhari said it was a legitimate right. “If we cannot honour our martyrs, who will? Someone from Burma?” he questioned.
He also said that central schemes such as Jal Shakti had only shown results during the governor’s rule, when there was no political interference. “Now everything has become a game of political convenience,” he said.
