SRINAGAR, Aug 31: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Vice President Mohammad Sartaj Madni today accused the Government of failing to deliver on promises of jobs, electricity, gas cylinders and infrastructure, while holding the National Conference (NC) responsible for Jammu and Kashmir’s decades-long political and security turmoil.
Speaking to Daily Excelsior after addressing a workers’ convention in Kulgam in south Kashmir, the former MLA launched a sharp attack on the NC, tracing what he called its history of “political betrayals and excesses.” “In 1947, they invited the Indian Army when Tribals entered Kashmir. In 1953, they turned to plebiscite. In 1975, they reclaimed power. In 1987, they rigged elections. The Public Safety Act, Ikhwan, the Task Force, and the army’s atrocities-they are the ones who created this situation. From 1947 till today, everything that has gone wrong is because of them,” Madni said.

He accused Chief Minister Omar Abdullah of making hollow promises. “Omar said he would provide one lakh jobs, 200 units of electricity, and 12 cylinders to every household. He also promised to fight for Article 370. None of his pledges has been delivered. Instead, thousands of our boys are languishing in jails. Except for the police, everything else is with him. Why has he not used his tongue to speak for the people?” Madni asked.
The PDP leader challenged Abdullah to raise real issues instead of slogans. “He should talk about 370 and 35A openly. He should talk about the current situation of Jammu and Kashmir, the prisoners, and the future of our youth. If he truly has a voice, let him use it,” he said.
On the Government’s recent decision on Jammat-run schools, Madni demanded clarity from the Government. “If it was not the Minister’s order, then whose order was it? She controls Education and Health portfolios. The Government must explain,” he said.
Madni said he was compelled to step out of his home after nearly 11 months because people were demanding answers. “The promises of jobs, roads, electricity, cylinders-nothing has been implemented. People cannot be left to God’s mercy. We have to talk and hold the Government accountable,” he said.
