JAMMU, June 14: Notwithstanding repeated directions from the Government, majority of the departments are not endorsing copies of Government orders to the Director, Archives and Archaeology and Museums for retention and preservation.
In terms of the circular issued under No.07-GAD of 2004 dated May 11, 2004, the instructions were issued to all the departments to identify and prepare a check list of records to be transferred to the Archives Repositories at Jammu and Srinagar for retention/preservation and to send copies of all such check lists to the Director, Department of Archives, Archaeology and Museums.
However, it has been observed that departments are not generally following these instructions.
“Now, it is again impressed upon all the Administrative Secretaries and the Heads of the Departments to endorse all the decisions/Government orders and important instructions to the Director, Archives, Archaeology and Museums so that a repository of record/documents is maintained at the divisional headquarters of the Directorate”, reads the latest circular issued by Commissioner/ Secretary to Government, Gazzanfer Hussain.
