JAMMU, Apr 29: The Government today ordered creation of new Super Specialty Department of Gastroenterology after segregating it from Department of Medicines in the Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu.
Dr Shoket Chowdhary, Assistant Professor, has been shifted from Medicines to Medical Gastroenterology, to head the Department.
An order to this effect was issued by Principal and Dean, GMC Jammu Dr Ganshyam Dev Gupta following approval given by Medical Education and Health Minister Taj Mohi-ud-Din.
“The Division of Gastroenterology working under the Department of Medicines will be shifted to Super Specialty Hospital (SSH) along with staff and machinery,’’ the Order reads. It said Dr Shoket Mahmood Chowdhary, Assistant Professor Gastroenterology will be the overall Head of Gastroenterology Super Specialty Hospital, GMC Jammu.
Dr Chowdhary is Graduate of GMC Jammu 1997 batch and has done MD Medicine from PGI Chandigarh and had qualified Medical Licensing Examination of USA (USMLE), where he got residency as pre patch in 5th largest centre of USA from University of Petersburg. However, he had quit the US job to work in his home State.
There had been long pending demand of the people for creation of separate Super Specialty Department of Gastroenterology in the GMC Jammu.
