Govt to create fund for promotion of Indian films at foreign film festivals

NEW DELHI, May 23:
The Government is going to create a fund for assisting filmmakers in promoting their films at foreign film festivals, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore said here today.
With Indian films increasingly gaining recognition abroad, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry had decided to extend financial held to Indian filmmakers in meeting their expenditures made in promotion of their production, Mr Rathore said.
“The filmmakers have to spend a lot of money on holding promotional shows, hiring halls and travellings, so the fund has been created to facilitate these filmmakers in tapping the full potential of their films by exposing them to widest international audience.’’
He said the proposal would soon be taken to the Cabinet. The Minister said the government was taking several other measures for promotion of Indian films, which includes inviting world class market agents at the Goa Film Festival.
According to sources, the promotional financial assistance for Oscar entries would be to the tune of around Rs 1 crore, while for Cannes Film Festival it would be of Rs 50 lakh. (UNI)
