JAMMU, Mar 11: Government of Jammu and Kashmir has constituted a Union Territory Level Steering Committee (UTLSC) to oversee the implementation of the Climate Change Action Plan for the Union Territory.

As per the order, the Chief Secretary of J&K will serve as the chairperson of the committee. The committee comprises several senior administrative heads of key departments who will function as members to guide and supervise climate-related policy implementation across sectors.
The members of the committee include the Administrative Secretaries of, Jal Shakti Department, Power Development Department, Agriculture Production Department, Public Works (R&B) Department; Department of Disaster Management, Housing and Urban Development Department, Health and Medical Education Department, Planning Department, Department of Forest, Science and Technology Department, Industries and Commerce Department, Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, and Transport Department.
In addition, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Head of Forest Force (HoFF), J&K and Director, Environment, Ecology and Remote Sensing (DEERS), J&K, who will serve as Member Secretary, have also been included in the committee.
According to the terms of reference, the committee will consider and approve the Climate Change Action Plan of the Union Territory and oversee its periodic review, updating and revision as required. It will also provide strategic guidance for integrating climate change considerations into policies, sectoral plans, schemes and development programmes to ensure alignment with national commitments and sustainable development objectives.
