JAMMU, Nov 3: Movement for Justice for Refugees of 1947 (MJR-47) from PoK has condemned the Central as well as the State Government for their alleged biased attitude towards displaced persons from Pak occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing a press conference here today convenor of the organization, J S Sudan, alleged that Government has failed to provide justice to the displaced persons from Muzaffrabad, Mirpur, Kotli, Palandhari etc in last over 65 years. He said though the organization appreciates the move of several State leaders from national political parties to take up matter with the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, Home Minister and the UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi but the DPs from these areas now languishing in various parts of Jammu region do not have much expectations of any outcome.
Mr Sudan alleged that these people were exploited by various political parties and given only false assurances. Wadhwa Committee’s report was never made public and its recommendations ignored. The Working Group on Kashmir also gave recommendations but they were also not implemented. The KPs were given fair treatment and offered Rs 22,650 crore relief till now as per Government record but the DPs have meted out with discriminatory treatment.
He claimed that Government of India had provided Rs 3500 per family about 60 years back to some families and no other grant of aid was provided. As per a Government order of 1954, land/ plots in Bakshi Nagar area were provided and each family had to pay Rs 2500 for it. The payment was made for allotment of 4 acre irrigated and 8 acre un-irrigated land but that too, has not been provided to them till date.
The MJR leaders including Suchwant Singh, Charanjit Singh and others expressed their resolve to launch a vigorous movement for the cause of PoK refugees, seeking one time settlement and representation for at least 8 seats of J&K Assembly.
