JAMMU, Jan 21: All Jammu & Kashmir Transport Welfare Association today said that Government has addressed several pending issues of the transporters of the J&K UT.
Addressing a press conference here today, chairman of the AJKTWA, Karan Singh Wazir said that Association discussed several urgent issues being faced by the transport fraternity across the Union Territory with the Transport Minister. During the meeting, the All J&K Transport Welfare Association apprised the Minister about the long-pending tariff revision, which had been awaiting approval.
Taking a decisive step, the Minister granted final approval to the tariff revision and informed the Association that the revised tariff file will be placed before the upcoming Cabinet meeting tomorrow. He further assured that the revised tariff will be announced in the public forum at the earliest.
The Chairman of the Association also raised the pressing issue regarding the extension of vehicle fitness and passing, which has been stopped since January 3, 2026 and is currently restricted to a single Automated Testing Station (ATS). He highlighted that the existing ATS is not capable of catering to the heavy demand of transporters, causing severe inconvenience and operational challenges.
Taking serious note of the concern, the Transport Minister assured that the matter of extension of fitness and passing will be addressed. He stated that the issue had already been discussed in a previous meeting with the Association and was duly recorded in the minutes of the meeting, and necessary action will be taken accordingly.
President of the Association, Vijay Singh Chib, expressed his gratitude to the Transport Minister for granting time to the Association at such short notice, patiently listening to the grievances of the transporters, and assuring timely resolution of the issues faced by the transport community. The Association expressed optimism that the assurances given by the Minister will bring much-needed relief to transporters across Jammu & Kashmir.
