JAMMU, Mar 13: Governor N.N. Vohra today released “Theatre An Introduction”, a book originally written in Kashmiri by Ashok Kumar Jailkhani, here at Raj Bhavan.
This volume encompasses interalia, a global overview of drama, technical aspects of theatre and the status of play acting in Kashmir.
The Governor complimented the writer for bringing out a book which, he hoped would prove useful for the students pursuing studies in the field of Theatre and Fine Arts.
The Governor interacted with the two dozen invited persons, from the field of Art and Literature, who were present on the occasion.
They spoke about the problems being faced by artists and theatre actors and reflected on the various ongoing projects for development of the theatre related infrastructure in the State. They urged the introduction of Master’s Programme on Drama/ Theatre in Jammu and Kashmir Universities.
The Governor assured them that their suggestions would be looked into by the authorities of both the Universities.
Among those present included Balwant Thakur, Director, Natrang Jammu, Dr. Sohan Lal Koul, Director, Writer, DDK, Jammu, Ayash Arif, Director, Festivals & Publications (J&K Film Makers and Artists Cooperative Ltd.), Mushtaq Kak, Stage Director & Film Actor, Prof. Tej Raina and Mohan Singh, Dogri Writer.
Navin K. Choudhary, Principal Secretary to the Governor was present on the occasion.
Meanwhile, Mr Vohra was presented a copy of “Takhat-i-Galib” by Avtar Krishen Ganjoo, well known author and translator. This volume in Urdu focuses on the varied aspects of Mirza Galib’s poetry.
The Governor complimented Ganjoo for bringing out “Takhat-i-Galib” and hoped that he would continue his contributions towards the enrichment of Urdu literature.
Mr Vohra, was also presented a book titled, “Controlling the Mind of a Criminal- the Yogic Way”, by Rameshwar Singh Jamwal.
This volume is a research based approach to deal with criminals and bringing about a behavioural change in their conduct. The author has also propounded the “Yogic Crime Theory” which explains the aberrations in the mind of criminals and anti social elements.
A delegation of Sopore Welfare and Development Forum, led by M.J. Iqbal, President also called on Mr. Vohra.
The delegation complained to the Governor about the reported decision to shift the Faculties of Agricultural Engineering, Forestry and Horticulture from the College of Agriculture at Wadura to Shalimar and other locations.
They also apprised the Governor about the difficulties faced by the people of Sopore in regard to the lack of infrastructure and civic problems.
The Governor heard the demands of the Forum and observed that there was no decision of the SKUAST-Kashmir University Council to shift any faculty from Wadura Campus. He assured the delegation that he would look into the other issues raised by them.
