RANCHI, Oct 22 : The festival of Govardhan Puja was celebrated with great devotion, enthusiasm, and traditional fervour across the city today. From vibrant rituals at ISKCON Ranchi to the grand Annakoot Mahabhog offering at the Tapovan Temple, the city witnessed deep expressions of faith and cultural heritage.
At the ISKCON Ranchi temple on Kanke Road, devotees organized a grand celebration of Govardhan Puja. An intricately crafted model of Govardhan Hill was displayed as a part of an attractive tableau, depicting sacred sites of Vrindavan such as Shyam Kund, Radha Kund, Govind Kund, and Manasi Ganga. The temple was beautifully decorated for the occasion, and from early morning, hundreds of devotees gathered to offer prayers and witness the divine splendour of Lord Krishna, who was adorned in a special attire.
As part of the rituals, 108 varieties of delicacies were offered to Lord Krishna. The event began with kirtans, followed by the Govardhan Parikrama and Aarti, symbolizing reverence to Govardhan Hill, believed to be the embodiment of Lord Krishna himself. Over 600 devotees participated in the celebration, singing and dancing with devotion before partaking in the prasadam at the conclusion of the ceremony.
ISKCON Ranchi Manager Madhusudan Mukund Das highlighted the religious and cultural in Indian tradition through a spiritual discourse, emphasizing the values of humility, gratitude, and nature worship represented by the festival.
The Shri Ram Janki Tapovan Temple also observed the occasion with grandeur and devotion. A special Annakoot Mahabhog, comprising 56 varieties of offerings, was presented to the deity. Temple head Mahant Om Prakash Sharan explained that the tradition of 56 bhogs holds deep spiritual significance, as described in various scriptures, symbolizing Lord Krishna’s divine connection with Govardhan.
Several priests and saints from different temples across city attended the ceremony, partaking in the offerings and blessings. As per temple tradition, the Mahabhog prasadam was first served to the priests and saints, followed by distribution among the devotees. Hundreds of worshippers from across the city visited the temple to offer prayers and partake in the holy feast, marking the festival with devotion, joy, and unity.
