JAMMU, Nov 28: Union Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Union Minister of State Ravneet Singh today visited Semiconductor Laboratory (SCL), Mohali to review the progress of work and ongoing modernisation activities.
During the visit, Vaishnaw announced that the Government of India will invest Rs 4,500 crore to upgrade and expand SCL.
“There is no doubt. SCL Mohali will be modernised and it will not be privatised. A big journey is ahead, and India is ready for it,” the Minister assured.
The Minister was speaking at SCL Mohali during a programme where 28 chips designed by students from 17 academic institutions were handed over.
Among the recipients of these chips designed by students from 17 academic institutions using Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools provided under the Government’s Chips to Start-up program was a beneficiary from IIT Jammu.
On receiving the chip, he thanked the Union Minister, the C2S team and the SCL chipping team for extending full institutional support to the nine-year-old institute and for addressing all the institutional doubts and queries promptly.
He said this is the fourth time IIT Jammu departments have been selected under the C2S scheme, adding that hands-on experience in semiconductor chip design is greatly benefiting the institution.
Pertinently, India remains among the few countries where students across nearly 300 universities are designing semiconductor chips using world-class EDA tools made available through Government initiatives.
