Srinagar, Mar 19: The Biochemistry Diagnostic Laboratory at Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar and its associated SMHS Hospital has secured accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) under the international standard ISO 15189:2022.
NABL, a constituent board of the Quality Council of India, certifies laboratories for quality and technical competence, ensuring accuracy and reliability in diagnostic services.
Officials said the accreditation, granted for a period of four years until 2030, covers a wide range of routine and advanced biochemical and immunological investigations.
These include blood glucose, electrolytes, renal and liver function tests (KFT, LFT), glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c), lipid profile, thyroid function tests, enzyme assays, advanced hormone assays, tumour markers and other specialised parameters, all validated as per international standards.
Principal and Dean, GMC Srinagar, Prof Iffat Hassan, lauded the efforts of the faculty and laboratory staff, stressing the importance of sustaining high-quality diagnostic services.
Head of the Department of Biochemistry, Prof Sabiya Majid, said the facility is the first large government-sector laboratory in the Union Territory to achieve NABL accreditation at this scale, calling it a milestone in strengthening quality diagnostics in the region.
It is to be noted here that the laboratory is a fully automated, state-of-the-art facility equipped with advanced machinery and robotic systems, conducting nearly 30 lakh tests annually with high levels of accuracy and efficiency.
Officials attributed the accreditation to the lab’s robust quality management system and technical competence.
