GMC Kathua hosts 2-day CDE event ‘Dentcom-2024’

KATHUA, Nov 14: The Department of Dentistry at Government Medical College (GMC) Kathua hosted a two-day Continuing Dental Education (CDE) event, “Dentcom-2024: Elevating Dentistry – Excellence, Expertise, and Evolution.”
The Conference, held under the leadership of Dr Surinder Kumar Atri, Principal of GMC Kathua, emphasized cutting-edge advancements in dental care. A team of dedicated faculty members, including Dr Nikhel Dev Wazir (Professor, Dentistry), Assistant Professors Dr Heena Sadiq and Dr Shahid Farooq, along with Dental Surgeons Dr Arun Bhagat, Dr Ankush Jasrotia and Dr Shruti, and Senior Resident Dr Ankit Mahajan, organized the event.
The Event featured a series of scientific sessions and hands-on courses aimed at enhancing skills in areas such as bio ceramics and bioactive materials, 3D obturation techniques, soft tissue lasers, and gingival curettage. Distinguished speakers led scientific lectures on a range of topics: Prof Shakeel (HoD Craniomaxillofacial Surgery at SKIMS Bemina) spoke on cranio-maxillofacial surgery; Dr Yash Raj Bahadur covered chairside crown fabrication; Dr Paras Kotwal discussed loading protocols in implants; Dr Rahul Krishan Kotwal explored the application of aligners in modern dentistry; and Dr Heena Sadiq provided insights into soft tissue laser techniques.
Additional presentations included Dr Shahid Farooq’s talk on All-on-4 implants, Dr Ankush Jasrotia’s lecture on the role of magnification in 3D obturation and instrumental retrieval, and Dr Ankit Mahajan’s exploration of the concept of curettage in dentistry. The event attracted key dignitaries on the second day, including Dr Bharat Bhushan (MLA Kathua), Chand Kishore (Additional Secretary, H&ME Department, J&K), Dr Sanjay Sharma (Deputy Director, Dentistry, Directorate of Health Services, Jammu), Dr Bhupinder Singh (president, JK SDC), and Dr Satish Sharma (HoD Dentistry, GMC Rajouri).
The inauguration commenced with ceremonial lamp lighting by the dignitaries, alongside the Principal and HoDs at GMC Kathua. The Conference highlighted advancements in dental implant technology, including new surgical protocols and loading techniques that have significantly reduced healing times, allowing for immediate or early implant loading in a greater number of cases.
