JAMMU, June 3: Government Medical College (GMC) Doda has been granted two DNB seats each in the Departments of Pediatrics and Anesthesia.
This was conveyed to Prof (Dr) Dinesh Kumar, Principal GMC Doda, vide two separate speciality specific official accreditation letters by National Board of Examination in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), New Delhi in the month of March and May 2021.
The provisional accreditation to start the courses in two streams has been granted for five years starting from January 2021 to December 2025. Every year, 2 students in each specialty (Anesthesia and Pediatrics) can enroll them and get Post Graduate training.
Commenting on the this achievement, Prof (Dr) Dinesh Kumar said, “The start of DNB courses in GMC Doda is expected to markedly bring down the referral from Doda to the already overburdened tertiary care institutes of Jammu and Kashmir”.
He further informed that GMC Doda has also applied for accreditation to DNB courses in six specialties viz Medicine, Surgery, Orthopedics, Gynae and OBG. “The assessment for the department of Medicine, Surgery, Orthopedics and Gynae OBG is under process,” he said and hoped that the assessment will be completed soon by NBEMS after decrease in surge in cases of COVID-19.
In order to strengthen the District Hospitals and new GMCs, the process of implementation of DNB courses in the Districts was initiated last year, so that after the implementation of the DNB courses in these District Hospitals and GMCs, they deliver tangible results in terms of HR and service delivery.
Pertinent to mention here that, Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar, Jammu was the first District Hospital in Union Territory of J&K which got two seats for DNB courses in Department of Medicine, in March last year.
