Eminent poet, writer, scholar and creative author Dr. Jitendra Udhampuri is a house-hold name in the entire region of Jammu and Kashmir and even across the country. His two books are under review and these were well received by the public and in literary circles.
After rendering over 30 years meritorious service in the Broadcasting field, he superannuated as Dy Director General of All India Radio and is a seasoned broadcaster and his services have been commendable. It was during his tenure the Radio Kashmir, Jammu (now Akashwani Jammu) regained its credibility and popularity.
It is notable that he writes in five languages:Urdu, Dogri, Hindi, Punjabi and English. His latest work in urdu “DhoopChhaon” and “Mein Tanhayee Mein Sochta Hoon” are collections of glowing Urdu poetry which is a remarkable addition to the Urdu literature.

Recipient of prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award for Dogri Literature, and is also a Padam 
Shri Awardee. He has already authored five books in Urdu like “Tanhaiyan”, “Kehkshan”, “Sailaab” “Mein TanhayeemeinSochtaHoon” and the present two Urdu Poetry books now under review. This 177 – page books and the other of 42 pages are literary treasure of Urdu poetry which will inspire generations.
“Dr. Udhampuri has dedicated his entire life for literature and as in the present ‘Dhoop Chhaon’ and “Mein Tanhayee Mein Sochta Hoon”, he has maintained high standards of literary work which is the real wealth of his attainments, says eminent Urdu poet, Arash Sehbayee”. In my view he is a poet of wide vision.
From one of the Ghazals two couplets follow.
“Jo Mohabbat Shanas Hote Hein,
Ghamzadon ka Asaas Hote Hein.
Jab bhee Karte Hein Hum Safar Koyee,
Hadise Aas-pass Hote Hein”.
(Those who know what love is, they bear pains of time, whenever are we in journey happenings do travel with us along).
The book is appealing with depth of sentiments and flight of imagination. Dr.Udhampuri has God -gifted pen which goes direct to the hearts of the readership. Writer of high repute, Udhampuri has commanded heights in the literature.
Another Couplet :
“SaaqiMujhe Naa Aaj Tu Jaam-e-Sharaab de,
Is Munjmad Hayaat ko Ik Inqlaab de,
Ujili Se Subhe de, KoyeeSurmayee Sham de,
Be-rang Zindagi ko phir Rang-e-eShabab de”
(Serve me not wine, O’ Saaqi today but invigorate and revolutionize my life by giving me bright mornings and sweet evenings).
A well-known litterateur Udhampuri has, infact, vast experience of life. His multi-faceted talent is expressed and is evident in his various works of literature. It is expected that still more literary contributions are yet to come. His clear-cut thoughts have found expression vividly in this Urdu poetic compositions. He is a committed reader and writes in a simple but stylish manner for the convenience of the readership.
Another thoughtful couplet follows :
“Itni Meethi Zaban Hai Kis Ke pass,
Hum keh Urdu Zabaan Ki Baat Karte Hein,
Is ke Dum Par hei Zindagi Apni,
Dil Ke Soz-e-Nihan ki baat Karte Hai”
(Who has such a sweet language. We talk of language known as Urdu, which is our heart beating and our proud language.Its very true and the core of heart). Whereas “MEIN TANHAYEE MEIN SOCHTA HOON” is a longer poem in the present context and dedicated to the great country -INDIA.
These two superb Urdu poetry books”DhoopChhaon” and “Mein Tanhayee Mein Sochta Hoon” published by Highbrow publications are finely printed on quality paper with attractive binding and moderately priced will certainly attract a wide readership especially the academicians, students and the youth.
It is certainly an addition to Urdu Language and holds a prominent place in the Indian literature.
