Glowing tribute paid to martyr Vijay Singh

JAMMU, July 18: Glowing tribute were paid to martyr Vijay Singh on his 33rd Shaheedi Diwas here, today who laid down his life in fighting terrorism in Doda on this day in 1992.
Paying tribute to martyr former Deputy CM and senior BJP leader, Dr Nirmal Singh highlighted his valour and said that late probation Sub Inspector in J&K Police Vijay Singh belonged to a family of warriors as his forefathers right from Maharaja Gulabh Singh’s rule have displayed their valour and courage in establishing the authority of Dogra rule in some vulnerable areas of PoJK.
He said even during the Pak invaders attack in 1947 the family fought with bravery against raiders and to save the honour of their dynasty they themselves beheaded their daughters and daughter-in-laws to save them from the ill treatment of raiders and this was the greatest sacrifice given by this family whose male members also laid their lives in fighting raiders.
Dr Nirmal Singh said SI Vijay Singh after getting an information that a militant was hiding in his house at Doda in 1992 when terrorism was on peak in this hilly belt raided the house along with some CRPF and J&K police personnel. He without caring for his life entered the house to catch the terrorist. Seeing police coming towards him the terrorist threw a grenade on the police party and SI Vijay Singh and a CRPF officer attained martyrdom in this attack while several cops were injured.
He also paid homage to other martyrs who laid down their lives in fighting terrorism in J&K during last 36 years of turmoil and said their sacrifice will not go waste.
Dr Vikrant Sharma, Prant Seh Sanghchalak RSS while paying tribute to Vijay Singh said that such national heroes are an inspiration for all of us. He said whenever nation faced any crisis internal or external our warriors defeated their designs by laying down lives to protect the nation and its age old civilization.
Mamta Singh senior BJP leader also spoke on the occasion and paid her respects to the martyr. Earlier a hawan was also performed for the peace of the departed soul and the portrait of the martyr was garlanded by the gathering.
