Sir,
In reference to the article titled”Give up Guns” by Hashim Quarashi published in your paper on June 19,2018,I would like to express my own views on the subject. I would like to support the views of the author with the remarks that the author has advised the all concerned including the hurriat conference and mililantsy to give up the guns for a peaceful solutions of the Kashmir problem.
However, the kashmir problem is not a purely political issue and can’t be solved by means of dialogue. It is well known to all that the separatists are demanding for Azadi (freedom). But it can’t be understood as what type of freedom they want. As per our constitution, all of the Indians irrespective of caste, creed, class, sex and social economic status have all types of freedoms including freedom of speech and expression, freedom of choosing an occupation of one’s choice, freedom to move and settle in any part of the country. But freedom to rape , loot, murder etc.cannot be given to any person.
In a pluristic country like India, one of the most significant type of freedom is the right to freedom of religion and faith which is also available to all of the Indians. However, the separatists want total freedom from Indian constitution and want either to merge with Pakistan or establish a separate Islamic state which is neither feasible nor desirable to any one except the fundamentalists of Kashmir. So,in order to solve the problem of Kashmir,we must understand the philosophy and psychology behind the issue. It needs brain washing with an iron hand. There should be no place for violence on either side. The terrorists should be treated as terrorists and punished as per the law made for the purpose.
It is also the duty of right thinking Kashmiri people to play an active role in educating and motivating the deviators for the ambicable solution of the problem. For this purpose a proper process has to be initiated by the Government. But guns can never solve the problem at all.
