JAMMU, Apr 7: BJP MLA from Reasi Ajay Nanda today submitted a second memorandum to the Minister for Relief and Rehabilitation, Basharat Bukhari and demanded that all migrants should be treated at par and Jammu migrants should also get same relief as is given to Kashmiri migrants.
He while welcoming the reported Government move to increase the relief for Kashmiri migrants to Rs 10,000 per month however said any such proposal without including Jammu migrants will be partial. Already, there is justified outrage among the Jammu migrants that they had been unfairly treated by the past Governments. Jammu migrants were getting only Rs 1,600 per family while Kashmiri migrants had been getting Rs 6,600 per family.
A total of 1,054 families and more than 5,100 persons had been residing in Talwara, Reasi. They were accommodated in NHPC quarters in 1998. These migrants are facing many problems for long. One of the major problems was of repairs to their quarters which have not been repaired in the last 42 months. The quarters were in deplorable condition and the floods last year and the recent torrential rains have damaged them. Besides, these migrants should be paid their arrears soon as committed by Government before the Supreme Court.
The BJP MLA asked the Government to address this issue immediately on the humanitarian grounds and suitable steps be taken to rehabilitate Kashmiri migrants as well as Jammu migrants on the same line as soon as possible.
