REASI, Oct 13: A 19-year old girl committed suicide by shooting herself with a 12 bore rifle at her house in a remote village under the jurisdiction of Chasana Police station as she was allegedly not willing to marry the boy of her parent’s choice.
The deceased was identified as Jamuna Devi alias Kacha Devi, daughter of Bhadur Singh of Sarsot, tehsil Chasana of district Reasi. She shot herself with a 12 bore rifle of her father and reportedly died on the spot.
According to Police, the incident took place at 9.30 a.m when the deceased was alone at home along with her grand mother while other family members had gone to the Dhok. “It has been learnt that her parents were going to marry her some where at Malikote and she was not willing for that. This might be a reason of her suicide,” the Police added.
On getting information about the incident, SHO Chassana along with Incharge PP Malikote and Medical Officer of PHC Ghota, rushed to the spot and enquired about the matter.
In this regard, inquest proceeding under Section 174 CrPC has been initiated at PP Malikote while dead body of the girl was handed over to the family after completing all the legal formalities.
