JAMMU, Dec 13: District administration Jammu renamed Government Higher Secondary School, (GHSS), Jourian as Shaheed Shamsher Singh Dy Commandant Government Higher Secondary School.
The renaming event was organized in the school premises in the presence of Additional DC (Law and Order) Harvinder Singh, SDM Akhnoor, Akhil Sadotra, CEO Jammu, Suraj Singh Rathore, Chairman MC, Jourian Madan Lal, Principal GDC Jourian, Dr. Anuradha Pandoh, Tehsildar, Jourian, Mamta Sudershan and Principal Higher Secondary School Jourian, Anu Bhardwaj.
46 BN BSF Akhnoor under the supervision of Dy Commandant C.R. Chauhan paid floral tribute to the martyr with guard of honour who laid down his life in the mid night of 10th December 2001 at Kulgam Kashmir while serving the nation.
Additional DC, Harvinder Singh presented a memento to Krishna Devi wife of martyr Shamsher Singh and paid floral tribute to him.
Speaking on this occasion, CEO Jammu, Suraj Singh Rathore , said that it is a matter of great pride that the district administration renamed the school after the name of Shaheed Shamsher Singh, Dy Commandant who studied in the same school during his childhood. He further added that it is a matter of pride for the family and people of the area that now the school is renamed as a tribute to the supreme sacrifice of Shamsher Singh by the administration of UT.
Speaking on the occasion, ADC (Law and Order) Harvinder Singh said that the renaming of schools is a token of gratitude and honour towards the supreme sacrifice of the martyr for the motherland. He motivated the youth to follow the foot prints of Shaheed Shamsher Singh to serve the mother land.
Dr. Rakesh Bharti Assistant Professor of Education, GDC Jourian conducted the proceedings of the programme and apprised the gathering of the life history and remarkable contribution of Shaheed Dy Commandant Shamsher Singh while serving in BSF at Punjab and Kashmir when militancy was at its peak.
A large number of people paid floral tribute to the martyr on the occasion.
Among others present were vice-chairperson, MC Jourian, Sham Lal, Darshan Singh Manhas, DFO (retd), Prakash Singh, SDPO Kishtwar, Vikram Singh, tehsildar Mandal, Pankaj Singh, Sarpanch, Manchack, Avtar Singh, Panches and Sarpanches of adjoining area.
