JAMMU, Mar 11: The Women Empowerment and Development Cell of Government Gandhi Memorial (GGM) Science College organized a function under the patronage of Principal Prof (Dr) Romesh Kumar Gupta and the guidance of Prof Yasmeen Mughal, convener of the Cell.
Sapna Kotwal, Secretary of the J&K Advisory Board for Development of Pahari Speaking People (now PEG), graced the occasion as the chief guest. In her address, she shared her inspiring journey, emphasizing the challenges and triumphs faced by women in leadership roles. Encouraging students to break barriers, she stressed the importance of building an inclusive and equitable society.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Prof Yasmeen Mughal, who underscored the role of education in empowering women. In his address, Prof (Dr) Romesh Kumar Gupta urged students to actively participate in initiatives promoting gender equality and recognized the importance of creating an inclusive environment for women.
A key highlight of the event was a symposium in which ten students from various semesters expressed their views on the theme in Dogri, English, Hindi, and Urdu. This multilingual platform showcased both intellectual and linguistic diversity, encouraging meaningful discussions on women’s empowerment.
Additionally, an Art Exhibition displayed a range of creative works, including posters and collages crafted by students Mohd Zaigham Salaria and Ishit Kaur. Postgraduate students from the Department of English also contributed their artistic expressions.
The event also featured a felicitation ceremony recognizing meritorious students for their excellence in various domains. Manmeet Kour, Sumeet Kumar, Chakshu Sharma, Maithly and Mohd Ayoub Jan were honored for literary and cultural achievements, while Mohd Zaigham Salaria and Ishit Kaur were recognized for their fine arts contributions. Speakers Innayat Kour, Sanchu Devi, Rahul Kumar and Tanisha Sharma received participation certificates.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Revika Arora, while proceedings were managed by Mohd Ayoub Jan and Maithly.
