JAMMU, Dec 22: The Department of Mathematics, GGM Science College, Jammu, organized a one day student’s conference in Mathematics on the eve of National Mathematics Day. The conference was held under the patronage of Prof. (Dr.) Romesh Kumar Gupta, Principal of the college, who also graced the occasion as the chief guest.
Prof. (Dr) Manish Sharma, Head of the Statistics Division, SKUAST Jammu, served as the resource person. He delivered an insightful lecture highlighting the close relationship between Mathematics and Statistics and emphasized their importance and applications in daily life and various branches of science.
Addressing the students, Prof Gupta motivated them to uphold moral values and contribute positively to society while striving for excellence in their academic and professional lives.
The formal welcome address was presented by Dr Pawan Kumar Sharma, Organizing Secretary, who spoke on the significance of mathematical applications in other scientific disciplines. Dr Rajesh Kumar Sharma, Convener of the conference and Head of the Mathematics Department, emphasized that mathematics plays a vital role in developing logical reasoning, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
The conference featured two events: an online written mathematics competition with participation from 48 students across the UT of Jammu and Kashmir and an oral/PPT presentation competition involving 20 students from the host college. In the presentation event, Harjinder Pal Singh secured first position, followed by Krishna Vashisht and Rudra Pratap Jalotra.
Prof. Rajiv Kumar gave formal vote of thanks during closing ceremony. Among those who attended the programme were Dr Sumit Dubey, Dr Pankaj Mansotra, Prof Surinder Sharma and Prof. Ram Krishan.
