SRINAGAR, July 5: A delegation of the General Line Teachers Forum (GLTF) today met Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, Education Minister Sakeena Itoo, and Commissioner Secretary School Education Department, Ram Niwas Sharma at the Civil Secretariat, Srinagar.
The delegation apprised the dignitaries of the growing concerns and long-standing issues being faced by General Line Teachers, who were appointed through a proper and transparent recruitment process conducted by the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB).
The Forum expressed serious concern over the disparity in promotional opportunities between General Line Teachers and their counterparts appointed under the Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) scheme-a village-level community-driven educational initiative.
The Forum alleged that deployment of RReT, under the garb of rationalization and administrative adjustments, have adversely affected the Annual Transfer Drive (ATD) in Jammu Province. It highlighted that in prominent schools of Jammu city and district headquarters, influential teachers, including some RReT, have been continuously posted for decades to avail full House Rent Allowance (HRA), while deserving teachers are ignored.
The delegation demanded conduct of a mandatory eligibility test for ReT teachers prior to any promotion to the Master Grade, creation of a separate cadre for ReTs with distinct promotional avenues and Master Grade posts within their original areas of appointment, strict implementation of court directions, immediate implementation of the Annual Transfer Drive (ATD) in Jammu Province, separate mechanism for transfers on medical and marriage grounds, revival and regular convening of DPC for different subjects, inclusion of new and emerging subjects like Public Administration in the school curriculum and raising sanctioned posts in subjects like Geology, Sociology, and Geography,
The delegation was led by Tasneem Baig (Founder Member), Farooq Ahmed Daing (President, GLTF Jammu Province), Sunil Singh (General Secretary, GLTF Jammu Province), Jeevan Lal, and other senior members of the Forum.
