JAMMU, Oct 29: General Category People’s Front, Jammu Kashmir (GCPF-JK) held its meeting today under the chairmanship of Raj Kumar Banathia, Chairman of the Front and highlighted various issues and demands.
Addressing the meeting, Prof Yash Paul Sanson, President of the Front accused the LG administration of imposing heavy taxes, fees, fines tolls and service charges, including water and electricity bills thus making it difficult for people to manage their day to day needs and kitchen expenses.
He demanded provision for 300 Unit of free electricity to every household in JK UT like Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, exempt pensioners from Income Tax and enhancement of Medical allowance of employees and pensioners from Rs 300/- to Rs 1000/- per month. He also demanded withdrawal of GST on food grains.
Sanson condemned continuation of reservation without any review and said that demanding reservation in the light of Mandal Commission report was not justifiable as it was too old to implement today. “During the last 70 long years, socio economic and political atmosphere of the country has totally changed. Today nation demands equal rights and equal laws for all,’ he said and appealed the Govt to take bold steps for the eradication of this social evil existing in the shape of reservation.
Som Nath Sharma, General Secretary of the Front, appealed Government of India to take initiatives to end casteism and promote the principles of equality, justice liberty and dignity to all citizens ending all the restrictions imposed on the application of basic fundamental constitutional and democratic rights.
He called upon unreserved category people to ruminate over their predicament and teach a lesson to those leaders and political parties, who played divisive vote bank politics and followed appeasement policies. He hinted that Front would be soon joining electoral politics.
V K Sharma and Bhushan Pargal, both Vice Presidents, highlighted the agenda of the Front. Dr Bansi Lal, Surinder Kumar, Jagdish Dogra, Ravi Sahni, Gopal Dass Verma were presented in the meeting.
