JAMMU, Jan 24: In a meeting of General Category People’s Front Jammu (GCPF), its members discussed in detail the challenges being faced by the General category people in the country.
Addressing the meeting, Yash Paul Sharma, President of the Front, alleged that the Government was promoting casteism, communalism and divisive forces through its socio-economic and political policies and as a result, these forces had raised their ugly heads in some part of the country which needed to be controlled.
Sharma strongly condemned issuance of promotion of Equity in Higher Education institutions, notified on 13th Jan, 2026. It is black circular issued by the University Grants Commission which excludes members of General Category (Swarn Castes) in the formation of Equity Committees mandated in Higher Education. He sought immediate corrective measures to end prejudiced bias against General Category (Swarn Smaj).
Mr Sharma reiterated GCPF demand that all legal and constitutional provision be made to make caste class and community irrelevant, as it had created a division in the society. He added and demanded that monetary support through special support measures (SSM) be provided to economically and educationally backward families of all castes in place of reservations, quotas, concessions and special privileges. The caste and religion be not involved with socio-economic and political policies of the Government, he said.
Front alleged misuse of stringent SCs/STs Atrocities Act and called for checks to prevent blackmailing and exploitation for personal vendetta against general category people. This Act is malaise plaguing Indian society and democratic system, it added.
S N Sharma, General Secretary of the Front held Government responsible for the downfall of Indian rupee, unemployment, price rise, population explosion and faulty economic policies and misuse of Tax payers money for political gains. “The provision of freebies, cash money, free ration and subsidies to the voters is part of deceit, political blackmailing of people just for the lust of power,” he said and demanded that all the freebies and political lollypops be stopped to lessen the burden of huge taxes on people.
Jadish Dora, Vice Chairman of the Front, demanded enactment of Hindu Worship Places Act for all temples and shrines at all India level to run their affairs with representative character for the best management of Hindu worships places.
