JAMMU, Dec 23: The 5124th Geeta Jayanti was celebrated with traditional religious fervour and gaiety today.
In this connection functions were held at Gao Shalla Bhawan Ambphalla, Geeta Satsang Ashram Muthi and Bhagavaan Gopinath Ashram Udaywalla Bohri in which a large number of people participated.
The function at Gao Shalla Ambphalla was organized by Gao Raksha Samiti and Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand was the chief guest on the occasion while Swami Hardyanand Ji Giri was the guest of honour.
Addressing the function Mr Tara Chand congratulated the Samiti on the occasion of Geeta Jayanti. He lauded its efforts for looking after the cows and their progeny.
He said, the cow is being worshiped by Hindus as she nourishes us with her milk, which is like nectar for human beings.
Earlier president of the Samiti Surinder Shastri highlighted the significance of the day. He said that Gao Raksha Samiti is a social and voluntary organization.
He said 300 cows and their progeny, which are mostly old, ailing, unproductive and unclaimed are kept in Gao Shalla Ambphalla, Dhateriyal in Marh and Jandrah in Dansal block. He also provided a memorandum to Deputy Chief Minister who in turn assured him full support from Government. On the occasion Tara Chand also felicitated the workers and Safai Karamcharis for their commendable job.
At Geeta Satsang Ashram Muthi Minister of Medical Education, Youth Services, Sports and Technical Education R S Chib was the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion he asked the youth to follow the preaching of Shrimad Bhagwat Geeta.
He said Lord Krishna had put light on every aspect of life in Shrimad Bhagwat Geeta. He said this sacred book is complete guide to be followed in life irrespective of caste, creed and religion. The centuries old holy book must be read by every one as it teaches betterment of humanity and it is as relevant today as it was during the Mahabarta period.
Responding to Pandits demands he expressed the hope that the recommendation of relief enhancement will soon get the Centre’s nod and maintained that UPA Chairperson, Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh are alive to problems of migrants.
He said Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is committed to mitigate the sufferings of migrants and reiterated the Government’s resolve for the enactment of law for protection of shrines and temples in Valley. On the occasion he announced Rs 4 lakh from his CDF for community hall in the ashram.
Addressing the function Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner R K Pandita assured the community that the demands of Swami Ji including construction of Ashram would be met soon.
He urged the community to fight out social evils and expressed grave concern over the increasing rate of divorces among the young couples which was not prevalent prior to migration.
On the occasion Swami Ji highlighted the significance of Shrimad Bhagwat Geeta and the day. He also highlighted the role of Ashram. The function started with flag hoisting ceremony by Swami Ji. A Maha Yagya was also performed in the Ashram today.
On the occasion some social activists and Government officers were felicitated for their remarkable work in their respective fields. Those who were felicitated included Sharda Radio team led by Ramesh Hangloo, Ravinder Bakshi Headquarter Assistant Relief Organization, Kundan Kashmiri president KPC, Saraswati Foundation, ETV correspondent Sameer Bhat, Arjan Nath Pandit of Hardwar Trust and Mochiphil Seth Athrot Trust led by Veer Ji Bhat.
The function among others was attended by Swami Chaman Lal Bamzi, Swami Pran Nath Bhat Gareeb, Ashtosh Ji, ASKPC chief H L Chatta, PCC Migrant Cell general secretary, H L Pandita, AIKPC, H N Jatu and ex corporator Sheela Handoo.
The devotees were also served the prashad.
On the occasion of Geeta Jayanti a free dental check up camp was organised by Bhagavaan Gopinathji Medical Mission a unit of Bhagavaan Gopinathji Trust at its Ashram premises at Udaywala Bohri today.
About 160 patients received free consultation and from a team of doctors headed by Dr Rakesh Raina (Dental Surgeon). He was accompanied by Dr Akash Bhat, Dr Sandeep Raina, Dr Meenakshi Bhat and Dr Anil Raina.
Geeta Jayanti was celebrated by the Geeta Ramayan Prachar Samiti Ramban under the patronage of its organizer Mohan Lal Sharma, with religious zeal and devotion at the Ragunath temple today.
As usually the star attraction on the occasion was saint Virinder Sharma of Ghagwal Jammu who enthralled the audience with his melodious bhajans and Geeta sermon.
Hans Raj Shastri of Udhampur and Rohit Kumar of Sanathan Dhram Sabha school Jalakha Mohalla Jammu were rewarded with first, second and third prizes respectively in the earlier held Geeta Gyan Prashan quiz
At last before the Arti copies of Geeta Ji in Hindi and Urdu were distributed free among the devotees.
