UDHAMPUR, Nov 23: The two-day national seminar on ‘Linguistic Relationship of Sanskrit, Hindi and Urdu (Ancient Roots to Modern Divergence)’ concluded at Government College for Women (GCW) Udhampur.
Organized under the aegis of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), the event was hosted by the Departments of Sanskrit, Hindi & Urdu, GCW Udhampur.
The valedictory session was graced by the chief guest, Balwant Singh Mankotia, MLA Chenani-Ghordi. He said that the relationship between Sanskrit, Hindi, and Urdu is not merely academic; it is the story of a shared civilization. Sanskrit is our ancient foundation, Hindi is its natural evolution, and Urdu is a magnificent example of cultural confluence. Together, these languages represent India’s composite identity, where knowledge, poetry, and culture flow seamlessly across centuries.
The MLA said that Dogra Geetru, Kashmiri dance, Gojri folk song, and Dogri folk dance showcased today were not mere performances but eflections of the soul of Jammu & Kashmir.
In her address, the College Principal Dr Nalini Pathania drew attention towards meaningful discussions, scholarly interactions, and inspiring cultural reflections in last two years, all centred around the theme ‘Linguistic Relationship of Sanskrit, Hindi and Urdu: Ancient Roots to Modern Divergence.’
Seminar Convenor, Dr Mool Raj briefed the audience about the theme, objectives, and academic significance of the seminar, emphasizing the need to understand the historical connections and modern divergences among Sanskrit, Hindi, and Urdu.
The seminar featured two academic sessions. In the Morning Technical Session, research papers were presented by scholars from various institutions. The session was presided over by Prof Ram Bahadur, Head, Department of Sanskrit, University of Jammu, and Dr Pervez Ahmed, Associate Professor, Urdu, JNU.
Prof Sunil Mangotra, Department of Hindi, conducted proceedings of the programme. The formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr Om Parkash, Department of Sanskrit.
During the ceremony, the chief guest distributed certificates to paper presenters and participants, appreciating their contributions to the academic discourse.
Among others, Dr. Indu Khajuria Convenor IQAC; Dr Monika Gupta, Dr Geetanjali Rajput, Dr Ajay Kumar Sharma, other faculty members, staff and large number of students were also present on the occasion.
