JAMMU, Sept 27: The NSS Unit of Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, organized a guest lecture on the “Role of NSS volunteers in Humanitarian Assistance”.
Raju Teron, AMEU Manager of Agency for Technical Cooperation and Development (ACTED), a France based International Development Organization, was the resource person on the occasion.
Teron spoke at length about different aspects of humanitarian assistance ranging from conducting rapid need assessment, to relief distribution and assisting other factors responding disasters to sustainable and eco-friendly living.
He explained how youth especially NSS volunteers can play a role in providing humanitarian assistance during floods and other man-made and natural calamities.
In the Power Point presentation, supported by videos and photographs of damage caused by floods in J&K, Teron also underlined various challenges during collecting data and response to floods, and the need of building attitudes towards save living in long run.
Principal of College, Dr Kiran Bakshi, said that students and youth can play active role in dealing with emergencies.
Earlier, NSS Programme Officer, Dr Ashaq Malik introduced the audience about the programme.
In the end, Prof Nazia Rasool presented formal vote of thanks whereas NSS volunteers Ashinder Kour and Sanam Khan conducted the proceedings of programme.
NSS Programme Officers, Dr Shiveta Gandotra and Prof Shrotika Rajput were also present.
