JAMMU, Nov 21: In the wake of the recent blast near Delhi’s Red Fort and the circulation of a video featuring accused Dr Umar Nabi allegedly defending suicide bombings, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Gupta condemned both the act and the extremist ideology behind it. He stressed that the attempt to cloak violence in religious justification is not only false but deeply dangerous for the country’s social fabric.
In a statement issued today, Gupta underscored that Islam unequivocally forbids suicide and the killing of innocents, a principle he said is shared across major religions. He warned that radicals exploit misinterpretations of faith to lure vulnerable youth, insisting that such “fabricated narratives” do not represent any community. According to him, the accused’s stance is a deliberate distortion crafted to mislead and provoke, and must be confronted head-on.
Appealing to religious and community leaders across faiths, Gupta urged imams, preachers, scholars, and clergy to actively counter extremist propaganda by highlighting accurate and peaceful interpretations of religious teachings. He cited Saudi Arabia’s successful effort to curb radicalisation through unified action by its scholars and institutions, arguing that India needs a similarly concerted push.
Welcoming AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi’s unequivocal condemnation of the viral video, Gupta noted that Owaisi’s clarity-that suicide is haram and such acts amount to terrorism-shows that the real battle is against radicalisation, not any religion.
He also issued a warning about external influences, accusing Pakistan-backed organisations such as Jaish-e-Mohammed of attempting to inject extremist ideology into India through propaganda networks. Their efforts, he said, become more potent when amplified by “white-collar sympathisers” within the country.
Calling for a proactive national response, Gupta proposed an “Operation Indoors” – a broad initiative aimed at identifying and addressing radical mindsets regardless of community or background. National security and unity, he said, must take precedence over every other consideration.
