‘Gareeb Koor’ staged on inaugural day of Bhand Pather

BANDIPORA, Oct 26: Bhand Pather revival project was launched here today at Chandergeer, Safapora, with the staging of play ‘Gareeb Koor’ written by Jamshed Ahmed, directed by Ghulam Mohammad Bhat and presented by Alamdar Luk Pather Centre.
This mega 20 shows series is organized by Natrang and Sangeet Natak Akademi. The project will feature 20 new productions in Bhand Pather style which will be presented by 20 different groups at 20 different places spread across the valley.
In his inaugural speech, Natrang Director Balwant Thakur described in detail the initiative which is aimed at infusing new creativity both in terms of incorporation of fresh themes and devising new techniques of presentation in Bhand Pather style.
The opening play of the series ‘Gareeb Koor’ begins with the highly socially relevant theme showcasing the plight of a poor man confronting to mobilize resources to meet out the growing demands of marriage ceremonies and rituals.
The play beautifully woven around the plight of poor people also tries to dig out reasons behind it. While attributing poverty to the continued disturbances, the play also warns people not to get swayed by the lucrative offers of the exploiters who may misuse their urge of getting rich overnight by pushing them on wrong paths.
The play which started with marriage celebrations witnesses lot of harsh tragedies unfolding the contemporary exploited life of villager of Kashmir. A poor father who has a simple dream of getting his daughter married in a respectable manner unfortunately lives through hell in quest of accumulating wealth.
The artists who performed in the play ‘Gareeb Koor’ included Ghulam Ahmed Bhat, Ali Mohammad, Tariq Ahmed, Abdul Khaliq, Sonaullah, Ishfaq Ahmed, Bilal Ahmed, Abdul Rehman, Mohammad Ramzan, Bashir Ahmed, Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, Jamshed Ahmed, Farooq Ahmed and Ghulam Mohammad Bhagat.
The shows are being coordinated by three National Awardees in performing arts viz. Mohd Yaseen, Manzoor-Ul-Haq and Shah-E-Jahan Ahmed Bhagat.
