JAMMU, Aug 1: Strike of Safai Karamcharis and other allied workers here today entered day 4 with the entire city turning into a garbage dump.
Heaps of garbage were seen everywhere on roads, streets, lanes, open spaces etc giving a shabby look to the city especially at a time when thousands of pilgrims are here for annual Amarnath pilgrimage.
However, incessant rains have further added to the already miserable conditions due to garbage everywhere in the city making the litter spread to every nook and corner here.
When contacted Rinku Gill-leader of protesting Safai Karamcharis and other allied workers said they have a long pending demand of regularisation of the services of Safai Karamcharis and other allied workers.
“Many times the authorities promised us to regularise our colleagues and trusting them we suspended out strikes but nothing happened as per the promises made with us,” he said adding that there are 81 Safai Karamcharis who work as casuals with Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC).
He further said that there are 33 drivers too with JMC whose services needs to be regularised.
“Apart from all these problems for a recently released list of selected Safai Karamcharis the authorities have kept a condition of running a race which is nowhere suitable to the post of Safai Karamchari,” Gill maintained.
He asked concerned authorities to look into their demands and concede them so that they may resume their duties.
