“The yatra is conducted every year with proper coordination and support. All necessary security and administrative arrangements have been put in place,” an official said.
The pilgrimage will begin with a special puja at the Naranag base camp, after which devotees will trek towards Gangbal Lake-a revered site where prayers are offered for ancestors and deceased family members.
The pilgrimage will begin on August 30 and conclude on September 1, with a large number of pilgrims expected to participate this year.
Forces from J&K Police, CRPF, Army, BSF, and other agencies have been deployed along the route to ensure the smooth and peaceful conduct of the yatra.
The Health Department has deputed doctors and paramedical staff, while other departments have also stationed officials to provide essential facilities.
The Ganderbal District Administration has directed all stakeholders to extend full support, including security and logistics.
Kashmiri Pandits and devotees from different parts of the country are expected to participate in the pilgrimage.
Notably, the yatra holds religious importance for Kashmiri Pandits, who consider Gangbal Lake the abode of Lord Shiva and traditionally immerse the mortal remains of their relatives there.
During the pilgrimage, devotees undertake a foot trek to the lake and perform key rituals also. After a long hiatus, the Gangbal Yatra was revived in 2009.
