LEH, June 23: Minister for Industries and Commerce Chander Parkash Ganga visited J&K Arts Emporium, Handicrafts and Handloom showrooms and took detailed information about functioning of these units.
Minister during the inspection made a meticulous enquiry about the procurement of raw materials, production and processing and selling system of all these units and urged to ensure quality products keeping in mind high business potential owing to large tourists’ influx in Ladakh.
Later, the Minister also visited the Industrial Estate and met with the members of Chamber of Industries members and listened to their grievances patiently. The members quoting the Government order where under all the Industrial Estates ordered to be transferred from District Industries Centre to SICOP, requested the Minister to modify the order and keep industrial estate exempted for the larger interest of the unit holders. They also requested the Minister to intervene in improving basic infrastructures like internal road, street lights, drinking water, drainage, waste disposal and security in the industrial area.
Minister while interacting with the Chamber of Industries members said that transferring of industrial estates from DIC to SICOP aimed at strengthening and promoting the industries on a better way as DICs lacks funding as well as infrastructures.
Ganga assured to look into improving the basic facilities in industrial estate.
General Manager, DIC, Leh Urgian Lhundup apprised the Minister that presently 80 units which includes steel fabrication, fruit processing, wooden works, bakery, dairy, thanka painting, shawl production and other handlooms works are functioning out of 97 units.
Deputy Director Geological and Mining, Dr AS Sodhi, District Mineral Officer, Mohammad Aslam and AD Handicrafts Sonam Gyurmet were among those accompanied the Minister during the visit.
