SAMBA, May 30: A mega event under the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan (VKSA) was held today at Panchayat Palli in District Samba, chaired by Chander Prakash Ganga, MLA Vijaypur constituency.
As per a statement, over 450 farmers and farm women participated in the programme, which aimed to raise awareness about modern agricultural practices and Government schemes.
On arrival, the MLA was welcomed by officers of various line departments and scientists from SKUAST-Jammu.
He visited more than 31 exhibition stalls set up by Government departments, KVK Samba, self-help groups, and entrepreneurs, showcasing innovations in agriculture and allied sectors.
In his address, the BJP MLA said that the Government was committed to making agriculture a profitable and sustainable livelihood option for the youth.
He encouraged farmers to stay in regular contact with departmental officers and make full use of schemes offered by both the Centre and the UT Government.
He also highlighted the importance of adopting organic and natural farming for better health and sustainable agriculture.
The programme was organised under the guidance of Prof Sanjay Khajuria, District Nodal Officer VKSA 2025, who motivated farmers to interact with agricultural scientists and seek solutions to their challenges.
He said the 15-day campaign will focus on educating farmers about region-specific technologies for Kharif crops, proper use of Soil Health Cards, and balanced fertiliser application, besides gathering feedback for future research.
Officials present there included Dr Rakesh Khajuria (Chief Agriculture Officer), Dr Rahul Dev (Chief Animal Husbandry Officer), Farhat Naz Choudhary (Deputy Registrar, Cooperatives), Joginder Kumar Sharma (AD Fisheries), Dr Deepak Kichloo (DSHO), and the Chief Horticulture Officer Samba.
Dr Neerja Sharma and Dr Reena, both Chief Scientists from SKUAST-Jammu, also addressed the gathering and interacted with the farmers.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Rakesh Khajuria, who briefed the MLA on the range of schemes being implemented for the benefit of Samba’s farming community.
