Gang of cattle lifters busted in Akhnoor

JAMMU, Nov 10: Police in Akhnoor area here today claimed that they have busted a gang of cattle lifters.
A police spokesperson said that on November 8, 2023, one Davinder Singh son of Bharat Singh of Mawa Karora Karangi lodged a complaint with Police Station Akhnoor regarding theft of his cattle.
On this, he said, a case FIR number 304/2023 under section 379 of the IPC was registered at Police Station Akhnoor and investigation taken up.
During investigation, the police spokesperson said that a party of Police Station Akhnoor led by SDPO Akhnoor Mohan Lal Sharma, assisted by SHO Akhnoor, Inspector Zaheer Mushtaq, detained two suspects, identified as Talib Hussain of Taroti, and Mushtaq Ahmed of Rajpura, for questioning.
The suspects confessed to their involved in the crime during sustained questioning, added the police spokesperson.
He said that on disclosure of the accused, two vehicles used in commission of the crime were seized and six cattle were freed.
According to the police spokesperson, one of the accused, Talib Hussain is a notorious bovine smuggler and was involved in number of bovine smugglings cases registered at Police Stations Thannamandi, Akhnoor, and Pouni.
Further investigation into the case is underway, he said.
