Srinagar, Dec 10: Residents of Yarmuqam Shah Mohalla in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district today expressed anger and demanded proper road connectivity, saying they have been deprived of it for years.
They also accused both the district administration and the elected Government of ignoring their long-pending grievance despite being aware of the hardships they face.
The residents said they have been suffering for years even though a Detailed Project Report (DPR) was prepared by the concerned department.
“A DPR was prepared for the 2.5 km road after it was handed over to the R&B Department, but it is still awaiting approval,” a local resident, Zubair Ahmad, said.
“We have an elected Government, they claim that they do not have powers, but they do; they are not doing anything.”
The residents raised slogans against the R&B Department and the Government, alleging continued “neglect” and expressing frustration over what they termed years of “indifference.”
“The Chief Minister comes to Ganderbal but does not listen to the poor people,” another resident, Muhammad Sadiq, said.
“There are around 300 households depending on this road. When it rains, we have to carry patients on our shoulders.”
They said the road has been ignored for years, with only substandard material laid in the past.
“The concerned MLAs and the administration have paid no heed to this issue. Three villages rely on this stretch,” the locals said, adding that winter worsens the situation as vehicles cannot ply on the dilapidated road.
Meanwhile, Executive Engineer, R&B Ganderbal, Arif Iqbal, told ‘Excelsior’ that the matter is being examined and a DPR has already been prepared. He assured immediate action.
“I have taken the field report and prepared a DPR under NABARD. I will take it up with the higher authorities. Repairs will also be carried out to make the road motorable, and our staff will visit the spot,” he said.
