Chief Education Officer (CEO) Ganderbal, Oneel Kumar, told Excelsior that none of the private coaching centres currently functioning in the district are registered with the authorities, as per available records.
He said the DSEK had issued a notification in April directing all private coaching centres across the Valley to seek registration.
“A fresh circular has now been issued by the Divisional Commissioner, under which two prescribed formats have been circulated for registration,” Kumar said.
He said that coaching centres have been asked to submit the filled formats to both the District Administration and the DSEK.
“Once the registration process is completed, teams will verify infrastructure, availability of drinking water, washrooms and other basic facilities,” he said.
According to information received from Zonal Education Officers, the CEO said, around 25 private coaching centres are currently functioning in Ganderbal district.
“Some centres may have applied directly to the Directorate. This will be verified during inspections,” Kumar said.
The CEO said the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Ganderbal, has been appointed as the nodal officer for the verification process.
“We will check whether centres have applied for registration and whether the documents submitted are genuine. Action will be taken against those found violating norms,” he added.
The district administration has also assured that action will be taken after completion of the verification and registration process.
Parents in district Ganderbal raised serious concerns over the functioning of unregulated private coaching centres, alleging lack of basic facilities, absence of a fixed fee structure and inadequate oversight.
