Gaddi Sabha flays proposed ST status to Paharis

UDHAMPUR, Nov 1: In a meeting here today All J&K Gaddi Sabha expressed resentment against the proposed ST status to Pahari people as recommended by Justice G.D Sharma Commission.
Speakers in the meeting said what will be the identification of Paharis and how the community will differ from non-pahari people.
They also claimed that Pahari people do not qualify the criteria for ST status as they are not tribal.
“Are people living in upper reaches of Doda, Udhampur, Kathua etc not Paharis,” they asked.
After discussions the Gaddi Sabha passed a joint resolution appealing J&K and Central Governments that reservation to Paharis should not affect the quota of tribal Gaddi and Sipis.
Gaddi and Sipis community members from Kathua, Bhaderwah, Ramban, Udhampur and Billawar participated in the meeting.
Prominent among those who spoke on the occasion were Kuldeep Kumar, Sabha Youth president; Tirth Ram, Sanjay Kumar, Jia Lal, Sarpanch; Sawarn, Kewal Krishan, Omkar, Jeevan, B.K Charak, Ram Parkash, Rakesh, Romi Malkan, Arjun, Ajay, Aman, Jagdeep, Akash, Nitish, Anil Balwant, Ajay, Sunil, Rohit, Ankush, Vijay, Arun, Romesh, Subash and others.
