JAMMU, May 21: In a historic and decisive move, the Federation of Trade and Industry of India (FTII) today formally announced a nationwide boycott of trade and tourism with Turkey and Azerbaijan.
The decision was taken during a meeting held today.
The meeting presided over by Sunil Singhi, Chairman of the National Traders Welfare Board, saw the participation of key industry leaders, traders and policymakers from across India.
The boycott, led by Dr Sanjay Bansal, national president of FTII and board member of the National Traders Welfare Board, is a response to the recent open support extended by Turkey and Azerbaijan to Pakistan during a time of heightened national security concerns for India.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Bansal emphasized the need for strong economic countermeasures against countries that oppose India’s sovereignty and interests.
In his keynote address, Sunil Singh expressed full support for the boycott and lauded the Indian business community for standing united with the nation.
During the meeting, several resolutions were unanimously passed including, a complete halt on imports and exports with Turkey and Azerbaijan, termination of all trade partnerships and delegations with entities from these countries.
A travel and tourism boycott, urging agencies not to promote these destinations, a formal appeal to the Government of India for a policy-level review of commercial ties with the two nations.
The FTII announced a nationwide awareness campaign to engage traders, consumers and travel professionals in upholding the boycott.
The meeting was also attended by Ghanshyam Das Goyal, Raj Khandelwal and Rajesh Jain.
