`Friends of Police’ to assist cops in militancy infested Surankote

SURANKOTE, July 3: In a unique and innovative idea of civil policing in militancy infested areas of Surankote, Police has identified educated unemployed youth as `Friends of Police’.
In the first phase, a group of thirty youth, including 21 Post Graduates and nine Graduates, have been selected as `Friends of Police’ and issued Identity cards to assist the law enforcing agency as its ears and eyes for checking general crimes.
These `Friends of Police ‘ will help cops by informing about corruption and illegal acts in the area, check eve teasing, regulating traffic, control smuggling of forest products, bovine smuggling, over loading, extra charging and black marketing etc.
The idea of civil policing is brainchild of SDPO Surankote Ajay Sharma, who convened a meeting of these `Friends of Police’ at Bufliaz, Surankote, and briefed them about their role and responsibilities besides issuing I-cards.
