JAMMU, Aug 5: A free orthopaedic camp was organized today at Jagti by the Departments of Orthopaedics, ASCOMS & Hospital, Sidhra, Jammu, in collaboration with the Jammu & Kashmir Orthopaedic Association (JKOA) and Samooh women wing, Jammu.
The camp was part of the nationwide celebration of Bone and Joint Day, observed every year on 4th August to promote musculoskeletal health awareness across all age groups, with a special emphasis this year on elderly care.
The event was inaugurated by Prof Dr Pavan Malhotra, Director & Principal, ASCOMS; Dr Rajesh K Gupta, Professor & Head, Department of Orthopaedics, ASCOMS; Rajiv Pandita, president, KDD; Anita Chanpuri, general secretary, Samooh women wing; and Urmila Kanth and Daizy Bhat, coordinators, Samooh women wing, Jagti.
The camp focused on spreading awareness about early screening, prevention, and management of osteoporosis, as well as promoting overall bone health through diet, lifestyle modifications and timely medical interventions.
A team of orthopaedic specialists from ASCOMS-Dr Shafiq Hackla, Dr Pallav Gupta, Dr Akashdeep and Dr Sarav Rashi, under the guidance of Prof Rajesh K Gupta-conducted detailed examinations of over 150 patients. Free medical consultations and medicines were provided to the attendees. Patients diagnosed with conditions requiring surgical management were screened and scheduled for free surgical procedures at ASCOMS & Hospital, Sidhra.
Educational materials on osteoporosis prevention, fall risk reduction, and maintaining mobility in old age were also distributed during the event, empowering the elderly to take proactive steps towards healthier ageing.
The camp was organized under the patronage of president of ASCOMS & Hospital, Swami Prem Vivekanand.
