Four railways stations in UP to register FIRs online

LUCKNOW, Sept 27:

Four railway stations in Uttar Pradesh will go high-tech from October 1 as it will start registering FIRs online and provide its copy to the complainant on his/her e-mail.

Also, the passenger can e-mail his complaint to the GRP on-board the running train and get the FIR registered. All he will need is an internet enabled smartphone to send the email from his/her train berth.

This is for the first time that such a service is being introduced for the convenience of passengers at Kanpur central, Allahabad, Mugalsarai and Varanasi railway stations.         GRP sources here today said that constables/head constables of GRP in groups are taking training of lodging online FIR these days.

For the ease of the passengers, the complaint can be forwarded to the GRP by the passenger while being on board the train and the FIR will be lodged.

“But if the contents of the FIR lodged during the course of investigation are found to be incorrect, we reserve the right to take action against the complainant under section 182 of CrPC. This will ensure that the people will not come forward to get a fake FIR registered. Once the FIR is registered, we will send the copy of it on the passenger’s given email ID”, sources said.

Interestingly, the GRP will hold awareness for the passengers that if they are able to click the picture of the person involved in any crime and send it to them via e-mail, the picture will also be attached with the online FIR that will be registered. GRP official said that this will make it easy for the cops to lookout for the criminal or the person having committed a crime. (UNI)
